Coimbatore: The Sulur police arrested a college student and his elder brother on Saturday for attacking a police officer.
The arrested people were identified as D Manoj Kumar, 21, and D Naveen, 24, from Government Hospital Road in Sulur. While Kumar is a final year BE mechanical student in a private college at Pallipalayam near Sulur, Naveen runs a tyre shop on the Railway Feeder Road at Sulur.
Special sub-inspector (SSI) Maruthaiyapandi had booked a case against Kumar a month ago for not possessing valid documents for his vehicle during a routine check and collected fine. “Kumar, who was on a scooter, went berserk when the SSI stopped him on Saturday at the Railway Feeder Road junction. He thought that the officer was targeting him. Meanwhile, Naveen reached the spot and support his brother. He rebuked the SSI for booking Kumar and slapped him in full public view,” a police officer said.
A police team caught the brothers and handed them over to the Sulur police. Based on the SSI’s complaint, police registered a case against the duo and arrested them. They were lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
