Residents in the locality alleged the fire brigade reached the spot very late even though it was alerted. Two cars parked near the transformer went up in flames. The situation was brought under control after a police team reached the spot and arrested one of the accused.
According to the firemen, they received information around 2am that fire had broken out in a transformer in Block U of DLF-3. “By the time we reached the spot, the blaze had spread to two cars parked near the transformer. As we got into the operation of dousing the fire, a resident came there and started abusing us. Soon he was joined by a crowd, who started pelting stones at us and beating us with sticks,” said Tejpal, driver with the fire department.
The firemen informed the police, and braving the attack continued in their efforts of dousing the fire.

A team from DLF-3 police station reached the spot and nabbed one of the accused, who was later identified as Sambhav Jain, a businessman. On seeing the police, the crowd dispersed from the spot. An FIR was registered against the accused under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant), 427 (causing damage) of the IPC and section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act at DLF-3 police station.
