Commuters rue of lack of basic amenities at Thiruvottiyur bus terminus

Thiruvottiyur bus terminus is crying for some attention. The amenities at the terminus are poor, and commuters have been asking for a shelter and better seating arrangements.

In the absence of a shelter at the halting point on the lane towards Ennore, commuters are forced to stand in the open.

A section of commuters can be seen waiting under a tree located near the timekeeper’s office. Another group of commuters wait under the elevated tracks of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). Waiting at most of these points is not pleasant. The space abutting the halting point is used as a trash yard and a toilet.

On the opposite lane towards the Toll Gate, pavements have been taken over by an automobile service shop. And, the space along the pavements is used to park two-wheelers.

As a result, commuters are forced to stand in the carriageway while waiting for their destination route numbers.

Some of the route numbers plying from the terminus are 56 (Ennore – Vallalar Nagar), 1C (Thiruvanmiyur – Ennore), 28 (Egmore North – Ennore) and 56P (High Court – Minjur).

The other complaint is that only a few bus drivers taking this stretch halt.

“We have to signal the drivers to halt,” said B. Durga, a commuter and a resident of Thiruvottiyur.
