PANAJI: Newly inducted minister
Michael Lobo said that
Goa Forward Party (GFP) had defiled the space where former chief minister
Manohar Parrikar was cremated by addressing a press conference and trying to extract political mileage from Parrikar’s legacy.
Lobo also refuted GFP’s charge that the BJP was trying to destroy Parrikar’s legacy by overturning the former chief minister’s policies.
“By going to his
samadhi he has abused the place. He wants to get political mileage, but he will not get that,” said Lobo minutes after being sworn into the cabinet.
GFP held an impromptu public meeting at Miramar where Parrikar was cremated and where a memorial is going to be built in honour of Parrikar. Addressing the press at the site, GFP president
Vijai Sardesai had said that chief minister
Pramod Sawant was out to dismantle Parrikar’s political legacy.
Asked if the public meeting was disrespectful to the legacy and
soul of Parrikar, Lobo replied, “100%. He has misused the place and abused the legacy of Manohar Parrikar. There is a sanctity to that place.”
Lobo, in fact, lashed out at Sardesai and said that the GFP president had “misused and abused” the term Goemkarponn and his own position in the government.
