KOLKATA: In a bid to conserve water, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation is considering a policy to provide property tax sops to developers and owners of flats who adopt and make provisions for rainwater harvesting. The KMC will table the proposal at the civic body's monthly meeting and present it in the House for its approval, deputy mayor Atin Ghosh said on Thursday. Ghosh held a meeting with North Delhi Municipal Corporation top brass on the implementation of Unit Area Assessment system in Kolkata.
Though, Ghosh did not specify the extent of exemption of the property tax, he said calculations will be done before announcing the exact amount. "We shall offer property tax exemptions for both residential and commercial projects based on the implementation of scientific harvesting of rainwater as directed by the KMC buildings department," Ghosh said.
