The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court not to intervene in the High Court order restricting the powers of Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi.
AIADMK leader on the floor of the Legislative Assembly A. Anbalagan said the Supreme Court decision had to be welcomed by all.
The Lt. Governor should confine herself to her responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution. She should not overstep her limits to usurp powers vested with an elected government, he said.
The Supreme Court had come out with its decision. Now at least, the Congress government should start functioning and address the problems faced by people, he said.
DMK’s demand
DMK floor leader R. Siva said the Union Government should recall Ms. Bedi as the Lt. Governor of the Union Territory. Ms. Bedi had subverted democracy during her three-year stint in the Union Territory. Her interference in the day-to-day affairs of the Union Territory had paralysed the administration, the DMK leader added.
