UP: Undertrial who escaped from police custody held

AGRA: The Mainpuri police in UP on Thursday promptly arrested an undertrial who fled from police custody while being produced in the district court for trial on Thursday.
This was the third incident in this month of undertrials fleeing from police custody while being brought to the district court for their trial. Though, one inmate of Agra district, who had escaped earlier, has been arrested, an undertrial who fled from Aligarh court is still absconding. Six policemen, who were responsible for the incident, have been suspended.

According to police, the undertrial, Jeetu (30), who was lodged at the Mainpuri jail just few days ago in a theft and burglary case, requested his guards that he wanted to go and relieve himself when they were returning from the court. The accused then pushed the constable aside and escaped.
However, he could not go far away, as the control room flashed messages to all police stations and he was nabbed with in an hour, just one km from the district court, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Shankar Rai.
