Varanasi: An
illegal cow slaughtering unit, where arms were also manufactured, was busted in a house adjacent to a graveyard in Kotwali police station of Azamgarh district on Wednesday evening.
The Azamgarh police arrested 14 persons, including a woman, in this connection. Apart from carcasses, ammunition, including carbines were recovered. Samples of meat recovered from the site were sent for laboratory test on Thursday.
SP Azamgarh Triveni Singh said, “Acting on a tip-off regarding largescale cow slaughtering in a house near a prominent graveyard in Kotwali area, a joint team of crime branch and Kotwali police raided the place. Though the occupants offered resistance, police managed to arrest Mahboob Alam, Abdul Baddu, Tipu Sultan, Mohd Suhail, Asif, Arif, Jamil, Faiz Ahmed, Mohd Tariq, Mohd Jaish, Rijwan Ahmed, Jawwad Ahmed, Mohd Osama and Rukhsana Bano.”
The police recovered Rs 52,000, six calves, meat and knives besides partially manufactured firearms, including carbine, pistols, etc., from the spot.
He said that following the recovery, veterinary doctors were summoned for autopsy of the slaughtered animals after which the carcasses were buried.
“Apart from attempt to murder and other sections of IPC , the accused were booked under appropriate sections of Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act and Arms and Explosives Act,” said the SP. He announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for the police team for the achievement.
