CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday announced that video- conferencing facilities will be set up in six government observation homes for
children in conflict with law to connect with juvenile justice boards in 16 districts.
There is a need to transport children from observation homes to juvenile justice boards for every hearing and to avoid frequent transportation, the state has already set up
video conferencing facilities in homes in eight districts.
“The facility will now be extended to remaining homes -- Thanjavur, Trichy, Salem, Cuddalore, Coimbatore and Madurai districts -- which will be connected to juvenile justice boards in 16 districts,” the CM said. The state’s ELCOT will take up the work at Rs 2.6 crore.
