DERA BABA NANAK: The boundary wall and the rooms of Sant Sarovar temple, which hindered the alignment of the four-lane highway of the
Kartarpur corridor, was demolished on Wednesday, when the work resumed following a brief spell of rain.
Dera Baba sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Gursimran Singh informed TOI on Wednesday that a part of the temple complex was demolished and new boundary wall of the temple was being constructed by the administration, adding that the idols of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman still remain where they were installed originally.
The construction work of the corridor — of nearly 200m area — was stalled following obstruction created by part of Sant Sarovar temple and a mazar (tomb), which were in the alignment of four-lane highway.
The mazar area was filled with soil before the work could be proceeded further — and cover an estimated 60m. Now, the temple issue had also been resolved.
Sources, however, informed that the deadline to complete the corridor may not be met, due to expected heavy rainfall in the near future, which could further stall the construction work. Already, the work had to be stopped for a day due to light rain fall in the area.
Sources said the agencies working at Kartarpur corridor have been instructed to give daily updates ahead of scheduled India and
Pakistan delegation-level meeting on July 14 at Wagah (Pakistan).
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Paksitan’s ministry of foreign affairs Mohammad Faisal had said in a statement: “We hope for expedited progress in the July 14 meeting to ensure operationalization of the corridor for the 550 birth anniversary celebrations of Baba
Guru Nanak. We are moving forward on this issue with positive spirit. In this regard, some decisions would be taken soon and I will update you accordingly.”
