Surat: Federation of Indian Art Silk Weaving Industry (FIASWI) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that anti-dumping duty on imported nylon filament yarn will ruin man-made fibre sector.
FIASWI in the letter has stated that the anti-dumping duty on nylon filament yarn imported from China, Malaysia, Chinese Taipie, Malaysia, Thailand and South Korea was in force since last 11 years and the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties in its final findings in the sunset review opined that it may be reviewed because it had served its purpose.

FIASWI chairman Bharat Gandhi told TOI, “The nylon filament yarn manufacturers’ lobby has filed an application for reimposing anti-dumping duty on the yarn. This is a cartel system and will deprive the weavers of free availability of world class quality nylon yarn from other countries. We have requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revoke anti-dumping duty on nylon yarn to protect powerloom weaving industry from the onslaught of local yarn manufacturers.”
Pandesara Weavers’ Association president Ashish Gujarat said, “For 11 years, the yarn manufacturers enjoyed the benefits of anti-dumping duty and now again they want to continue the duty at the cost of ruining the weaving industry. The imported yarn is much cheaper than the one manufactured by domestic spinners.”
