PANAJI:
Panaji MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’
Monserrate on Wednesday said he has joined BJP to fulfil the promise and dream of Panaji.
Monserrate told TOI that he has promised the voters of Panaji he will develop the state capital and provide employment to the youth of the city. He added that initially, after getting elected, they try to form the government but it did not materialise.
Monserrate said, “If we are in the opposition then we cannot take up development work in the constituency and provide jobs to unemployed youths” and that is the reason he has decided to join BJP.
“We have promised a lot of things to the people of Panaji but in the opposition we cannot fulfil any of them and that is the reason we have joined BJP,” he said.
Monserrate had defeated BJP candidate Sidharth Kuncalienker in the recently-concluded byelection. Former chief minister
Manohar Parrikar had represented the Panaji constituency since 1994.
