KOLHAPUR: Three
dams in the district have filled up to nearly the half-way mark, while two smaller dams have reached 100% capacity owing to the incessant rain over the past few days, said a district disaster management cell official on Wednesday.
The official said the Ghatprabha
dam in Chandgad taluka and Kode dam in Gaganbawda taluka have been filled to 100% of their capacities.
Meanwhile, the Radhanagari dam, which has a total capacity of 8.36TMC, currently has 4.44TMC of water stock.
The Kadavi dam in Shahuwadi taluka too has filled to 58% of its capacity.
According to the official, in the past 24 hours, the Gaganbawda taluka has received very heavy rainfall with the figures clocking up to 123.50mm.
He added that whenever there is rainfall between 115.6mm and 204 mm, it is considered very heavy rainfall.
On Wednesday, the water level in Panchganga river reached 34.6ft - it has been steadily rising towards the warning level of 39ft.
The Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai, in its weather forecast stated that the Southwest Monsoon was active over the South Konkan-Goa region.
Rainfall took place at most places in the Konkan-Goa area, at many places in South Madhya Maharashtra, at a few places in North Madhya Maharashtra and at isolated places in the Gujarat region.
The conditions, however, were dry in Saurashtra and Kutch region.
In its weather forecast for the next 24 hours, it added that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of north Konkan and in the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra.
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of South Konkan too.
