Thiruvananthapuram: The Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (Hudco) will provide Rs 2 crore to Kudumbashree to construct 36 houses for families who lost their homes in last year’s floods.
The funds are being allotted as part of the corporate social responsibility of Hudco. The Kudumbashree had requested for funds from Hudco for the initiative and the first instalment of Rs 33.6 lakh has been handed over to Kudumbashree. The houses will be constructed in north Paravoor municipality in Ernakulam district and Chengannoor municipality and Venmoni panchayat in Alappuzha district. Twelve houses each will be built in these three regions. The houses will be constructed by the women building construction unit of Kudumbashree. Though the idea is to hand over all the 36 houses to the beneficiaries within a year, the Kudumbashree is expecting to complete the construction in just six months. The beneficiaries have been selected from the list of beneficiaries from the government list, and each house will cost Rs 5.6 lakh. The Kudumbashree district mission coordinator will be in charge of supervision of the construction of houses. There are as many as 279 women building construction units in the state. tnn
