Ahmedabad: 5 lakh educated, semi-educated youth jobless

GANDHINAGAR: Ahmedabad district has 48,715 unemployed youth and 4.93 lakh educated and semi-educated youth are unemployed in the state. Of them, 4.93 lakh are educated. The state government tabled these figures on Wednesday in response to starred and unstarred questions. In a written reply to a question from Ellisbridge MLA Rakesh Shah, the government said that as of March 31, 2019, 48,715 were registered as unemployed in Ahmedabad district. The government said that in the financial year 2018-19, it has given employment to 50,013 youth in the district.
In a reply to a question from Sayajigang MLA Jitendra Sukhadia, the government said that as of March 31, 2018, 27,090 were registered as unemployed in Vadodara and over a year, the government has given employment to 29,908.

In response to an unstarred question from Dang MLA Mangalbhai Gavit, the government said that as on September 30, 2018, the state had 4.68 lakh educated unemployed youth, while 29,951 semi-educated youth were unemployed.
Replying to another unstarred question, the government stated that between October 1, 2013, and September 30, 2018, it has given jobs to 3,084 youth. The government said that the maximum number of government jobs were given between October 1, 2015, and September 30, 2016. The government said it gave 1,002 jobs during this period. In response to a question from Vansda MLA Anantkumar Patel, the government said that ONGC, Airports Authority of India, and IOC were not giving 85% of jobs to local youth in line with the state government resolution. The government said that regular meetings are held with these institutions to ensure that the job rule is followed.
