Nagpur: Ganeshpeth police team on Thursday fished out a sack having severed head, two arms and legs likely of the same male, in his 30s, whose dismembered body was found in Gandhisagar Lake a day earlier. On Wednesday, police had recovered from the lake an unidentified man’s torso which was also separated into two parts.
Ganeshpeth police, having registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence, had started searching the lake for remaining parts of the body. The torso was found near the Bal Udyan following which citywide investigation by Ganeshpeth cops and crime branch teams had kicked off. It was found wrapped in a brown-coloured grain sack which was not stitched.
On Thursday, Ganeshpeth police took diver Jagdish Khare along to conduct the searches with a boat. The search focused between Bal Udyan and Raman Science centre. The police team spotted another sack near the corner of lake near Empress mall, some 100 metres from where the torso was found a day ago. It had the head, arms and legs in it. This sack, which was of a wheat variety, too was not stitched.
The head had two deep horizontal cuts on the back while there was a sharp slash on the right side of the face. Senior officials feel the victim was likely killed by inflicting an injury on the back of the head, face and throat before being dismembered.
Amid hectic searches, a rumour had started that the unidentified body may be of a criminal identified as Ashish Shendre who stayed at Kalamna and was untraceable. The cops could not trace any such person missing from Kalamna so far. “We are searching the massive numbers of missing persons aged between 30 and 40 years of age,” he said.
Police sources said the decomposed body was severed using a big sharp cutter evident from the sharp edges it left on the body parts. Forensic experts of Mayo hospital indicated the man may have been killed around four days ago.
Position of a circular CCTV camera at the junction near the Empress mall is the biggest hope for the investigating team as it can cover the road in front of Raman Science centre, another directed towards the stretch in front Rajwada palace and Tata Parsi school and another towards the corner of the lake from where the latest sack with head and limbs were recovered. The cops are now scanning through several hours of CCTV footage for clues.
According to a senior officer, a vehicle may have been used to bring the sacks to the lake which may have got captured in CCTV cameras. “Given the brutality, this murder is likely fallout of some deep hatred,” said an officer.
