MLAs don't need SC order to meet me: Speaker
The MLAs approached the SC, its observation was the following order: We permit the petitioners, 10 in number, to appear before the Hon Speaker of the Karnata Legislative Assembly at 6 pm. I ask you – for our MLAs to meet me, do they need SC intervention? Of course we have utmost respect for the SC. But the MLAs never approached me or asked me. They instead went to Mumbai and the Supreme Court in Delhi and then levelled allegations at me, and the media wrote it. What are people to think of me? I beg you let me die in peace.

I am delaying because I love this land: Speaker
Why am I delaying? I’m delaying because I love this land. I will have to convince myself. I’m 70. I don’t have to believe that I’m going to live until 100, but I must die peacefully. I repeat, I’m not under any obligations, my obligations are only to the people of this state and the constitution.

Speaker speaks on clean politics
Speaker says: While discussing a bill in Parliament, Prof Madhu Dandavate (a politician and a Physicist) had said: At 11 this morning, we all stood in silence to offer tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, but that was only a ceremonial tribute. The real tribute will come when the anti-defection Bill will be passed in this House and the era of clean politics will begin.

Will uphold the Constitution, says Speaker
Should I have done work at a lightning speed? And for what? To please whom? Should I not respect the citizens? I will uphold the constitution. There is no external force that can affect my decisions: Speaker
07:07 PM
Some reports in media regarding alleged delaying tactics by me hurt me. I was in my office until 12.45 pm, after that I went out on personal work. The MLAs arrived at 2.30, and nobody intimated me that they were coming. So the inference that I left to avoid them, as has been made, is false. I cannot call the MLAs on a Sunday as it is a holiday: Speaker

It’s a strange situation in state politics today. As Speaker of Vidhana Soudha, it is my duty to give information to citizens of Karnataka regarding status of the government. It is not my duty to either retain any MLA or to make them resign: Speaker
