MLAs don't need SC order to meet me: Speaker
The MLAs approached the SC, its observation was the following order: We permit the petitioners, 10 in number, to appear before the Hon Speaker of the Karnata Legislative Assembly at 6 pm. I ask you – for our MLAs to meet me, do they need SC intervention? Of course we have utmost respect for the SC. But the MLAs never approached me or asked me. The 10 rebel Karnataka Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-U) legislators are meanwhile en route to Bengaluru from Mumbai on Thursday. Sources told PTI they left by a flight from Mumbai at around 2 p.m. and are expected to land in Bengaluru at around 4 p.m., well in time to meet the Speaker
Issue of disqualification need to be decided first: Speaker to SC
Karnataka Assembly Speaker has moved the SC saying that rebel MLAs resignation issue can't be decided during the course of the day, reports ET's Samanwaya Rautray. His advocate Abhishek Singhvi informed that the court cannot direct him to decide immediately. And that the issue of disqualification would have to be decided first. The SC did not give an urgent order, saying the Speaker's application will be taken up when it hears the matter again on Friday. The court had in the morning directed the rebel MLAs to meet the Speaker at 6 pm, and requested the Speaker to take a call today itself.
The Speaker through his counsel told the SC that verifying whether an MLA has resigned voluntarily takes time and that the court cannot direct him to decide immediately.

Why should I resign?', asks CM Kumaraswamy
Before the Cabinet meeting Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy rejected Opposition demands that he quit, IANS reported. "Why should I resign? What is the necessity?," retorted Kumaraswamy in Kannada when asked by reporters. He pointed out at Yeddyurappa did not resign as CM after 18 of his legislators revolted against him in 2008-09. Prohibitory orders around Vidhana Soudha
Bengaluru Police have issued prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, restricting the gathering of more than five persons and any form of protests within the two-km area around the Vidhana Soudha. This is ahead of the crucial cabinet meeting to be chaired by CM HD Kumaraswamy at 11 am.
SC to hear plea of Karnataka rebel MLAs at 10.30 am?
The Supreme Court will hear at 10.30 am a petition filed by 10 rebel MLAs of Congress and JD(S) alleging that the Karnataka Assembly Speaker was not accepting their resignations deliberately. The plea, which has sought direction for the Speaker to accept the resignation of these MLAs, would be heard by a bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose. In the petition, the MLAs alleged that the Speaker was protecting the government which is in minority now.

Just a handful of Mumbai Congress leaders, including Sanjay Nirupam, Milind Deora, Naseem Khan, Ganesh Yadav (city Youth Congress president) and one local corporator, came to meet Shivakumar when he was detained and being taken to a guest house in Kalina campus of the Mumbai University, reports PTI. State-level Congress leaders were conspicuous by their absence and these included some who were hosted by Shivakumar in 2002 when the government of then Congress Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in Maharashtra was on the verge of collapse.
Ruling Congress- JD(S) coalition tally reduced to 100
Of the 16 MLAs who have resigned so far, 13 are from Congress and three from JD(S). The ruling coalition faces the threat of losing majority in the Assembly if the resignations are accepted as its current tally is 116 (Congress-78, JD(S)-37 and BSP-1 ) in the 224-member House. With the support of the two independents, who Monday resigned from the ministry, the BJP has 107 MLAs in the 224-member House, where the half-way mark is 113. If the resignations of the 16 MLAs are accepted, the coalition's tally will be reduced to 100.
