Cadillac Commits To Making Performance Cars With Manual Transmissions

While many automakers have ditched manual transmissions in their high-end cars, Cadillac insists that it will continue to offer its V-Series performance model with a stick shift.

During the reveal of the 2020 Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V in late May, GM president Mark Reuss told Muscle Cars & Trucks that “Cadillac will make manuals in V-Series.”

Neither the CT4-V or CT5-V have been announced with a manual transmission just yet, and instead come exclusively with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. However, Reuss’ statement likely means that the upcoming hot versions of the CT4-V and CT5-V will be offered with manuals.

When Cadillac unveiled the pair, the world was expecting to see successors to the ATS-V and CTS-V. That’s not what we got. Instead, they made much more approachable because, as they said at the time, “people were intimidated” by its V-branded cars.

Fortunately, they will still cater to those buyers hungry for huge performance figures. The full-blown versions of the CT4-V and CT5-V could get the ‘Blackwing’ moniker. The CT5-V could use the same twin-turbocharged V8 as the CT6-V, but with 600 HP instead of 550, whereas the the CT4-V might have a twin-turbo V6.

If these two models are available with manual transmissions, we suspect Cadillac enthusiasts will forgive the car manufacturer for shaking up its V-Series family. After all, it’s hard not to get excited about the prospect of a pair of sedans with over 500 HP that give you the option of rowing your own gears.
