Water woes haunt the region even during winter

Joint Secretary and special officer for Jala Shakthi Abhiyan Lav Agarwal said that every possible drop of water should be saved in view of the deficit rainfall conditions.

Addressing a meeting held at Bollapalli mandal, which has been facing an acute water crisis for many years, Mr. Lav Agarwal said that water is a precious resource, which cannot be generated but can only be preserved.

Bollapalli mandal has long been in the news as water woes continue to haunt the people even during winter, with the groundwater table plummeting to a depth of 1,000 feet below the ground level.

Under the Jala Shakthi Abhiyan , the Union Government has taken up a massive programme to conserve water by digging rainwater harvesting structures and water sheds.

Collector I. Samuel Anand Kumar said that villagers of Palnadu have been facing an acute water shortage but can now look foward to better days.

A massive programme to preserve water has been taken up with a mission to mitigate water crisis, the Collector said.
