The Tamil Nadu Cauvery Vivasayigal Association has urged the Central Pollution Control Board not to grant permission to the Karnataka government for constructing a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu.
Talking to reporters at Mannargudi on Wednesday, its general secretary P.R.Pandian said while hearing a case filed in the Supreme Court, it made it very clear that preparation of an inspection report alone was permitted and not any construction.
“So, inclusion of Mekedatu dam construction as a point of discussion in the meeting of Expert Appraisal Committee for River Valley and Hydro Electric Projects functioning under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on July 19 is violation of the Cauvery tribunal order and Supreme Court judgement,” he said.
The association has urged the Tamil Nadu government to pass a resolution condemning the CPCB’s decision to include Mekedatu issue in the list of matters to be discussed and bring this development to the notice of the Supreme Court.
