JHANSI: A 19-year-old student of MBBS first year in Jhansi Medical College ended her life by jumping from the fifth floor of the under-construction super-speciality wing of the college on Tuesday morning.
Mannya Tiwari, from Kanpur, was reportedly reeling under stress due to ongoing semester examinations.
According to college authorities, she called up her mother around 5.30am and said that her previous exam had gone badly. Her mother consoled her saying she could reappear for it.
Mannya reportedly replied that she would not take the exam again and was going to jump from the building and disconnected the phone. Her mother immediately alerted the hostel warden, who along with a guard rushed to save Mannya. However, by that time, she had jumped from the building.

By afternoon, her parents arrived in college and informed the authorities about the phone call. Her father Ashish Tiwari, a professor at IIT-Kanpur, said that Mannya was their only child and was a brilliant student. She had cleared both medical and IIT entrance exams in the first attempt but had opted for medical.
Dr NS Senger, former principal of the medical college, said the incident was shocking and that Mannya was a promising student.
