Hyundai has launched the Kona Electric, the first long-range electric vehicle in India with prices starting at Rs 25.30 lakhs (Introductory ex-showroom, all India). The Kona Electric Vehicle has been brought to the country via the CKD route and will be offered in one top-of-the-line variant and with five colour options. The Kona Electric will be available in 15 dealerships across 11 cities. 

This model gets 39.2kWh battery pack has an ARAI-claimed range of 452km. Hyundai offers a warrenty of 8-year or 1,60,000km for this battery alone. The Hyundai Kona Electric comes with a 7.2kW wall box AC charging station, the battery can be fully charged with a standard AC charger in 6 hours and 10 minutes, while the 100 kW DC fast charger enables the battery to be charged to 80 per-cent in just 57 minutes. There is also a portable 2.8kW charger that can be plugged into a normal wall socket and can add 50km of range in three hours.

The Kona gets the 100kW electric motor that produces 136PS of power and 395Nm of torque. These figures enable the vehicle to sprint from 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds. This vehicle have four drive modes - Eco, Eco+, Comfort and Sport.

The Hyundai Kona EV measures in at 4180mm in length, 1800mm in width, 1570mm in height and 2600mm in wheelbase. This model was developed in same Hyundais Elite i20 platform. This vehicle looks like a big cross over. The new vehicle is equipped with a sharp looking, full LED day time running lights with the LED bi-function headlamps integrated in the body cladding right at the edge of the bumpers. The fog lamps sit lower integrated into the bumper lip of the car. This model has an all black interior with leather upholstery, soft touch dashboard, ventilated and heated front seats, 10-way power adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split folding rear seats, fully auto AC, sunroof, powered and heated ORVMs, rear AC vents, cruise control, 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. 

In terms of safety, the Kona elctric gets six airbags, auto headlamps, disc brakes on all wheels, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, ISOFIX child seat anchor, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear camera and ABS with EBD.
