GET STEPPIN 5K: Fundraiser for First Step Inn homeless shelter set for Aug. 10

FALL RIVER — Registrations are being accepted for the annual Get Steppin' 5K Walk, set for Saturday, Aug. 10, at 9:15 a.m.

Sponsored by Steppingstone, Inc., the event will start and finish at the First Step Inn, 134 Durfee St.. The course runs along the waterfront at Heritage State Park. It is a fundraiser for the First Step Inn, Fall River's homeless shelter operated by Steppingstone. The funds help provide the homeless with educational opportunities, counseling, warm and healthy meals, shelter and other services.

“Once again we ask the community to reach out and help us in providing treatment, educational and vocational opportunities to the homeless citizens of the City of Fall River." said Kathleen Schedler-Clark, Executive Director of Steppingstone, Inc. “The funds that we raise in our walk go directly into the operations of our shelter and helps those in need find the treatment or services that will assist them in becoming contributing members of our society once again. The funds will also help us keep our doors open 24 hours per day during the cold winter months and we see this year shelter everyone in need.”
