Court tells govt to decide on school bus stops in 4 wks

Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted four weeks to the state government to decide on stops and parking spaces for the school buses. The move came after government informed that it was finalizing school buses stops in entire state which is a massive exercise and, therefore, take time to complete.
Though it had demanded three weeks to complete formalities, a division bench comprising justices Ravi Deshpande and Vinay Joshi granted four weeks considering the large scale of work.
The HC was hearing a PIL while hearing a suo motu PIL on the death of nine-year-old Virat Zade, a student of Central India Public School, on January 9, 2011, where Firdos Mirza was appointed as amicus curiae. Earlier, Mirza pointed out that the government had failed to comply with HC’s earlier orders.
In the last hearing, the government informed that it had issued orders to provide places/stoppages for school buses, as per HC’s directives. In same hearing, RTO filed an affidavit informing that verification of school buses and vans would be conducted during vacations.
It added that about 3,321 school buses and vans were registered with the RTO.
Gadling, Rao’s plea on July 15
Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court would hear the pleas of Naxal sympathizers Vara Vara Rao and lawyer Surendra Gadling on July 15. Both had challenged additional month’s time granted to Gadchiroli police for filing the charge sheet against them.
As per HC’s directives of July 3, both petitioners had submitted their replies through counsel Nihalsingh Rathod while the government has also filed its submission opposing their petitions.

In same hearing, justice Rohit Deo issued notices to respondent — Hedri Police Armed Outpost’s sub-divisional police office (SDPO), coming under the Naxal-infested district. He had asked both Gadling and Rao to file reply.
Both petitioners had contended that Gadchiroli police had failed to file a charge sheet within stipulated period of 90 days. However, the cops were granted additional time of 30 days to file charge sheet, which is contrary to the law. They stressed on that both of them are entitled for a bail after the charge sheet wasn’t filed in 90 days, but the cops are putting them under illegal detention.
