A nurse who allegedly took secret semi-naked photos of staff and patients at a private hospital has been charged.

Father-of-three Sean Farrow, 52, is alleged to have installed the cameras at Monash House Private Hospital in Clayton, Melbourne

Cleaners initially discovered covert cameras hidden in the female change room earlier this year.

Devices were wedged between the lockers and toilet walls and a police investigation launched.

One staff member said they worried patients had been filmed in their beds as they recovered from surgery.

Dr David Vivian, the hospital's medical director, said Farrow was 'immediately dismissed'.

'We've been told there was one patient involved,' Dr Vivian said.

'Police informed the patient and there’s been no further contact,' he said.

Farrow had been working at the hospital for around two years and had not been disciplined at any time during this period, 9News reported.

A staff memorandum was also circulated in March with updates of the police probe.

'As you are aware, police have informed us they have located images of a small number of staff,' former CEO Roger Pendred said in the memo.

'Police have since advised they have located images of a small number of patients.'

Counselling services have reportedly been offered to staff, and workplace health and safety regulators have run security checks in the hospital.

The hospital released a statement to say it took the matter seriously.

'Monash House does not tolerate behaviour of the kind that has been alleged under any circumstances.

'As this matter is before the Court, Monash House will not be making further comment at this stage.'

Farrow was charged with five counts of installing optical surveillance, one charge of visually capturing a genital region and one count of sexual assault.

His registration with the Australian health Practitioner Regulation Agency has been suspended.

He is set to face Moorabbin Magistrates' Court on July 22.
