The teams will return on Wednesday (July 10) - the designated reserve day for the first semifinal - for a full 50 overs a side match, weather permitting. The Black Caps will resume their innings from where they left off.
However, the forecast for Wednesday (reserve day) doesn’t promise complete clear skies either. It will be mostly cloudy. The forecast for Northwest England, according to the British MET department for Wednesday is : "Skies will be on the cloudy side for many today with outbreaks of rain at times, mainly in the north"
As per the rain rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC), if there is no play possible on the reserve match day and no winner is determined, the higher placed team from the league stage will progress to the final. Since India finished on top of the points table, Virat Kohli and his team will go through to the final in that case.
In case a full 100 over match is possible and the D/L method doesn't come into the equation, it should be advantage Team India, considering New Zealand have been struggling to score against the Indian bowlers.
In case of a tie, the match result will be decided by a Super Over.
