Nagpur: Sadar police have arrested two employees of MahaMetro, including a suspended deputy general manager (DGM), for allegedly leaking video of conversation between senior officials of the company. Cops have booked the accused under Information Technology (IT) Act.
The accused have been identified as Vishwa Ranjan Beura, senior DGM (signalling), and Pravin Samarth, an operator with IT department of MahaMetro. According to sources, Beura was suspended on June 18 for allegedly submitting fake documents during his recruitment. An inquiry in this regard was underway. However, Beura wanted to know updates about on-going inquiry, so he approached Samarth for his help.
Samarth allegedly agreed to secretly record conversations of senior officials on Beura’s investigation and give it to Beura. Police said Samarth was involved in organizing video conferences of senior officials and started recording proceedings. He provided the video of the conversation to Beura.
The alleged leak came to light when video was released on social media and was seen by top brass of MahaMetro. MahaMetro started an investigation and zeroed in on Samarth. When questioned he spilled the beans. MahaMetro officials then filed a complaint with Sadar police.
Senior PI of Sadar Mahesh Bansode said, “We arrested both the accused but they will be released on bail as it is a bailable offence. Investigation is still underway.” It is learnt police are also trying to find out what other information the accused had leaked along with video.
MahaMetro, in a statment, said over a period of time it was suspected attempts were being made to breach the cyber security system of MahaMetro to manipulate and leak data and documents. An internal enquiry is in progess. This enquiry has resulted in identifying individulas and their suspicious activities. Since this is a crime under Cyber Security Act, an FIR has been lodged with Nagpur police and the matter is under investigation.
