AGRA: A 23-year-old woman posing with a
loaded pistol for a photo suffered
bullet injuries after she accidentally pulled the trigger. The pistol belonged to her father-in-law.
The incident took place at 10:30 am in
Durga Nagar area of Sadar police limits in Agra city. Victim is identified as Janvi Tomar, who was hit by a bullet near her heart, thereby damaging her left lung. She is in a critical condition.
Janvi was married to
Vishwajeet Singh Tomar (24) for past one year. Her father-in-law
Subhas Tomar, a jawan posted in Jammu and Kashmir had handed over the licensed pistol before leaving for Delhi to meet Vishwajeet, who is working as an intern in a private firm. At the time of incident, Janvi’s mother was downstairs, while her 13-year-old sister-in-law, Dolly, was getting a smartphone to click a snap for Janvi with the pistol.
Dolly, who was witness to the incident, said, “Bhabhi [Janvi] had asked me to click some pictures of her with a pistol. I wasn’t aware that it was loaded. As soon as I picked up the smartphone to click photos, a bullet went off from the pistol and the next thing I saw was bhabhi lying in a pool of blood. I shouted for help, and she was taken to a hospital with the help of neighbours.”
Mahaveer, the victim’s maternal uncle, said, “Janvi is in a critical condition. Her husband Vishwajeet and father-in-law Subhas Tomar returned from Delhi. Earlier on Tuesday, before leaving for Delhi, Subhas had given the weapon to Janvi and asked her to keep it in a safe place.”
Circle officer of Sadar, Vikas Jaiswal, said, “The woman had sustained bullet injuries. The exact sequence of event has to be ascertained. A proper probe would be conducted in the case.”
Additional city magistrate Jyoti Rai has taken the victim’s statement, which according to sources, concurred with her sister-in-law’s version.
