TMC asks Salt Lake mayor to put in his papers

Trinamool Congress has finally decided to remove Sabyasachi Dutta as the mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
On Monday, urban development minister Firhad Hakim reportedly asked Dutta to put in his papers, but the defiant mayor claimed he had received no such call or instruction from the party. Later, Hakim asked BMC deputy mayor Tapas Chatterjee to initiate a no-confidence motion against him. Chatterjee indicated he was reaching out to all councillors and the motion would be placed in the BMC board of councillors meeting on Wednesday.

“I’ve received instruction from minister Firhad Hakim to initiate the process to bring a no-confidence motion against Sabyasachi Dutta. We are informing our councillors to sign on the draft,” Chatterjee said.
The BMC has 41 councillors, including Dutta, and 36 of them had urged the party leadership on Sunday to remove the mayor for his “anti-party activities”.
