Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy raised the issue of unfulfilled promises made to Telangana by the Central government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Mr. Reddy said that the people of Telangana were severely disappointed as there was no mention of any projects promised to Telangana either in the speech of President of India Ramnath Kovind or the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman.
In his maiden speech, he reminded that several assurances were given to Telangana in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and they included a Railway Coach Factory at Kazipet, Steel Factory at Bayyaram and Tribal University. “Only ₹ 1 crore was given for Tribal University last year and this year too only ₹ 1 crore has been given. How is it possible to set up a Tribal University with just ₹ 2 crore?” he asked.
Mr. Reddy appealed to the Centre and Home Minister Amit Shah, who was present in the House and listening to his speech, to ensure that whatever assurances were given at the time of Telangana creation were honoured. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who was also in the House, listened to him in attention.
