A 23-year-old youth drowned in the sea after falling from a fibre boat on Monday.

The body of A. Michael Raja was recovered in the sea during a search operation conducted by the Coastal Security Group (CSG) on Tuesday.

CSG sources said Sathish Kumar along with six of his college friends, including Michael Raja, set sail on board a fibre boat belonging to the former’s relative from Embavayal village on Monday evening. Due to rough weather conditions and heavy waves, Michael Raja fell from the fibre boat into the sea about 300 metres from Kallivayal village.

Search conducted by local fishermen proved futile on Monday. The search operation continued on Tuesday and the body of Michael Raja was found floating in the sea in the morning. The body was recovered and sent for post mortem.

Tiruppunavasal Marine Police have registered a case under IPC sections 280 (rash navigation of vessel) and 304-A (causing death by negligence).
