NEW DELHI: Cloudy skies will greet India and New Zealand, when the two teams arrive at Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday for the first semi-final of the 2019 ICC World Cup.

SCHEDULE FOR KNOCKOUT FIXTURES

The British MET Department has forecast intermittent showers throughout the day. The forecast wasn't as threatening till Monday, with mostly cloudy weather expected. But the rain gods seem to have changed their decision to add some potential D/L math to the battle for a place in the final. Now, there is rain expected in spells in Manchester on Tuesday.

The good news is that all three knockout games, the two semi-finals and the final, have a reserve day. In the event of rain not allowing the game to finish on the scheduled day, it will resume from the same position on the reserve day. Of course, if a 20-overs-a-side match is possible, then that will be counted as an official match and the reserve day will not be required.

The bad news is that Manchester weather on the reserve day (Wednesday, July 10) for the India-New Zealand semi-final is not positive either, with mainly cloudy skies and spells of rain expected again.

The India vs New Zealand league match was also abandoned due to rain. Fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that an encore of that does not play out on Tuesday.

In case a 20-overs-a-side match is not possible across the scheduled day and reserve day of the semi-finals, then, as per the tournament rules, the team that finished higher on the points table during the league stage will progress to the final. So if the India-New Zealand semi-final gets rained out, it will be India going through to the final because they had topped the points table and the Black Caps finished fourth.

The second semi-final will be played between Australia and hosts England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday. The reserve day for that match is Friday (July 12).
