More departments will be added to online portal for applications: Minister

To expedite clearances for industries, nine more clearance issuing government departments and agencies, will be added to the online portal for applications, Minister for Industries and Commerce E.P. Jayarajan said on Monday.

K-Swift (Single Window Interface for Fast and Transparent Clearance), the online application system, already enables applicants to seek clearance from 14 departments. Those applying for clearances to set up new industries can avoid the hassle of visiting each office separately, said the Minister.

To get rid of financial barriers in the industrial sector, interest on fines will be done away with and a one-time settlement will be ensured, said Mr. Jayarajan. Departments must respond to licence applications in a month. Otherwise, the system will generate a government-recognised deemed licence and the concerned agency will be held accountable for the delay.

Mr. Jayarajan was speaking at an adalat organised by the Department of Industries and Commerce to deal with pending clearances. Of the 227 cases from the district, 122 were settled and 105 were deferred. As many as 25 cases dealt with land for setting up new industries. The pending cases will be settled in two months, said Mr. Jayarajan.

A technical workshop for the general engineering sector was also held.
