Commissioner of Collegiate Education Navin Mittal said reforms have been introduced in government colleges such as full scale reorganisation of all courses and option to choose medium of instruction. “The result is that the admission numbers, which were stagnant for almost four to five years, increased by almost 39% in a single year,” he said.
Speaking about achievements of a few universities in Telangana, he said Osmania University got A-plus grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council and secured 3.52 CGPA.
“It is the recipient of highest RUSA grant which is being given to only 10 universities in the country for improving quality of the university. Assessing the performance, Ministry of Human Resource Development has told us that in the next phase of RUSA, best performing universities are likely to get ₹1,000 crore grant. Osmania University would be a frontrunner for that,” Mr Mittal said.
He also revealed that a ‘Kakatiya Hub’ would be established on Kakatiya University campus to boost research and innovation.
Boosting attendance
The State government is set to launch a movement to improve attendance of students in schools, especially in rural areas, said Education Secretary B. Janardhan Reddy, pointing out that attendance is low in intermediate, degree and PG colleges too.
