Brabham Kicks Off Production Of The BT62 In Australia

Brabham Automotive has confirmed that production of its BT62 hypercar has commenced in the city of Adelaide.

While attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed, founder and owner David Brabham told Car Sales that the first three BT62s are set to be delivered to their customers in the first quarter of 2020.

“We’ve got builds happening now. We’ll have three cars,” Brabham said. “Yes, we’ve had some delays. But that has mostly been down to suppliers, and some of the effects of Brexit. But that is mostly behind us and now we’re investing in the factory.”

Brabham originally intended on delivering the first of its BT62s to an owner in Germany next month, but says the customer is happy to wait a little longer for the track machine. After all, delays for vehicles of this kind are nothing out of the ordinary and owners who have managed to secure an example are, more often than not, willing to wait until their latest dream ride is good and ready.

While the BT62 was originally launched as a track-only hypercar, the company did announce a kit which can make it road-legal earlier this year. The conversion can be carried out in the United Kingdom and Australia and includes features such as front and rear lifts, air conditioning, door locks and immobilizers.

Regardless if it’s street legal or not, the BT62 is powered by a 5.4-liter V8 pumping out 700 HP and 492 lb-ft (667 Nm) of torque and sports an aaggressive aero kit that generates lots of downforce. Earlier this year, it set a lap record at Australia’s Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, upstaging the previous holder, an Audi R8 Ultra GT3 race car.
