Dustbins in Visakhapatnam to have QR codes now

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is going to launch a new system to clear the dustbins on the roads. The new system will equip dustbins with QR (quick response) codes to facilitate the immediate clearing of trash.
In the QR coding system, the bins provided by GVMC will have QR codes on them. If and when the need arises, customers will be able to scan the QR code on their smartphone through the GVMC application and send an alert to the civic body. The sanitary staff of the particular zone will then be directed to take action.
Speaking to TOI, GVMC commissioner, G Srijana said, “We inspected the bar-coded bins on the RK Beach Road along with the technical team on Tuesday. The entire process was briefed and we plan to launch the QR coded bins within this week.”
“Although the bins are cleared on a daily basis, tourist spots like the RK Beach need to be clean throughout the day. We have introduced QR codes so that people can alert us and we can respond to the grievance,” the commissioner added.

“On a pilot basis, all bins on the RK Beach Road will be QR-coded. We will observe the response we receive from people,” Srjijana said.
Chief medical officer of GVMC, Dr A Hemanth said, “The bin-monitoring system has been introduced for effective waste management. If people play an active role, the public places can be made much cleaner.”
