A Qantas flight bound for Hamilton Island has been grounded after passengers reported a smell of gas in the cabin.
The plane was being boarded at Cairns Airport at about 4pm on Tuesday afternoon when the pilot alerted emergency crews.
Two patients who inhaled the flames were treated at the scene by ambulance workers.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said fire crews had cleared the fumes from the site.
The passengers were conscious and did not need to be taken to hospital.
However, authorities are yet to determine the cause of the smell.
The plane is not expected to fly until Wednesday morning.
