A youngster slit the throat of a 22 -year-old girl, Manasvini, in a hotel room in Chaitanyapuri police station limits on Tuesday afternoon. The alleged attacker, J Venkatesh, later tried to end his life by slitting his hands and stabbing himself in the stomach.
According to Chaitanyapuri inspector S Sudershan, Venkatesh and the girl met at a coaching centre while preparing for GATE examination for admission into M Tech course. The girl stays in Saroornagar. The youngster is from Nellore of Andhra Pradesh and stayed in a rented home in Dilsukhnagar while taking the coaching.
“The girl began to avoid him. He called her to a hotel room to talk about it and attacked her. He reached the hotel one hour before her and carried two or three knives with him,” said inspector Sudhershan.
While arguing with Venkatesh, she called her brother and informed him of the hotel name. The family members reached the hotel, and with the help of staff, they located the room. When they reached the room, police said, they heard her screams and broke open the door. The girl received deep injuries in the throat.
She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. A case under Section 307 (Attempt to murder) of the IPC was registered.
