Former SARS commissioner Tom Moyane decides to join Twitter after all

It's official. Axed SARS commissioner Tom Moyane has decided to join Twitter just a few weeks after he said a fake account had been created in his name.

Moyane on Tuesday in a video post confirmed the authenticity of his Twitter account. In the video Moyane said he's joining Twitter to take part in the "greater dialogue and discourse".

"I'm very happy to be part of the Twitter community and I'd like to be part and parcel of the greater dialogue and discourse because of a number of things."

The account with the handle @t_moyane, meanwhile, is so far following just one person but has since garnered just over 20 followers.

When asked why he decided to join Twitter, Moyane in a call with Fin24 said he ''just wants to hear what people are discussing and talking about.''

Moyane welcomed users to join him in the discussions, ''I'm now going on, come with me in the greater discussions, have a lovely day.''

On June 20, Moyane denied that a twitter account set up in his name was his.

At the time, the account had tweeted that it had been set up to clear his name against "systemic lies told by dedicated media houses and journalists".

Ramaphosa axed Moyane last year following recommendations by the Nugent Commission which investigated administrative governance at SARS.
