Traffic cops may install LED lights on zebra crossings

PUNE: In order to make motorists follow traffic rules, the Pune traffic police are studying the feasibility of installing changing LED strip lights at a zebra crossing, on the lines of those in  Hyderabad. 

According to officials, Hyderabad police have LED lights installed at the traffic signal junctions. They are embedded in the road after digging the surface. 

It is waterproof and is not impacted by rain or water stagnation. 

The lights encourage motorists to stop before pedestrian crossings. 

The row of lights is more visible and indicates exactly where vehicles are to stop.DCP (Traffic) Pankaj Deshmukh said, “With the help of the contractor who has installed the LED lights in Hyderabad, we are checking the feasibility of the project in Pune.” In Pune most motorists halt on zebra crossing, leaving little space for pedestrians.
