Complaint about rule violation on Ulloor-Medical College stretch

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has instructed the City police to check illegal parking on the Ulloor-Medical College stretch.

Commission chairman Justice Antony Dominic said that the police were responsible for ensuring smooth traffic flow on the stretch and also the safety of pedestrians. The City Police Commissioner should issue instructions to curb illegal parking on this route, he said.

The order came on a complaint filed by S. Manimekhala which stated that the public were put to intense hardships due to illegal parking on the road leading from the old Casualty wing to Ilankavil Road. The commission had sought reports from the District Collector and the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB). Both the Collector and the KRFB, in their reports, blamed illegal parking for the traffic issues in the region.

Traffic wardens

According to the commission, the Collector reported that traffic flow was affected due to parking of cars and motorcycles outside various commercial establishments on the stretch. Illegal parking is being controlled with the help of traffic wardens, the Collector reported, adding that the traffic police had been informed.

The KRFB, in its report to the commission, also blamed illegal parking for hampering the smooth flow of traffic. Vehicles were being parked illegally even in bus bays. In its order, the commission pointed out that the police should ensure that traffic is not hampered on the stretch, which was also a main road leading to the medical college hospital.
