PATIALA: The police have booked in-laws of a woman who allegedly jumped into a canal along with her three-year-old daughter.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC, including death of woman by poisoning or drowning and dowry demand. The family of the woman alleged that she was being physically tortured by her in-laws.
A case has been registered at Patran police station on the complaint of Dharam Singh of Diwana village of
Kurukshetra,
Haryana. He alleged that he married his daughter a few years back to the accused Bablu of Patran town in the district.
He said his daughter Renu Bala, 23, had called him on his phone on July 5 and complained that her in-laws had assaulted her. The complainant further told the police that his daughter kept weeping over the phone and alleged that her husband Bablu and his parents had beaten her over dowry demand and were also angry that she had given birth to a girl child. He further told the police that Renu and Bablu had three-year-old daughter from the marriage.
“We have registered a case against the accused identified as Bablu and his mother Sunita Devi of Patran town under relevant sections of the IPC, including dowry demand and causing death to a woman by poisoning or drowning or other. The complainant alleged that his daughter on July 5 after informing him over the phone about the physical assault took the extreme step and jumped into the canal along with her three-year-old daughter Khushdeep Kaur. The body of the girl child was recovered on Sunday, however, Renu’s body is still missing and the divers are trying to trace her out. The accused will be nabbed soon,” said the investigation officer in the case.
