The State Secretariat, the nerve centre of the State administration, is all set to be shifted to the Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Bhavan (BRKR) located in the same neighbourhood.
Efforts have been intensified to vacate the BRKR Bhavan, housing several government departments, including the Technical Education wing and the Telangana State Technology Services, to pave the way for shifting the Secretariat departments there. Shifting of the Technical Education and other departments from the BRKR Bhavan to the offices of their respective heads of departments began on Tuesday and the process is likely to continue for the next few days.
Secretary in Chief Minister’s Office Adhar Sinha along with a team of senior R&B officials inspected the BRKR Bhavan premises and the facilities available in the complex for housing the Secretariat departments.
The development comes in the light of the government’s decision to construct a state-of-the-art Secretariat complex in place of the existing complex which had several shortcomings, including the absence of fire safety measures in some blocks and the scarcity of provisions for holding major conferences.
New complex
The government has accordingly decided to shift the existing offices in the old complex for the time being so that the construction of the new complex could commence as early as possible. Accordingly, the offices of the Chief Minister including that of the Chief Advisor and CMO secretaries, Chief Secretary and ministers as well as General Administration, Finance, Home and other departments will be relocated in the BRKR Bhavan.
Going by the tentative plans, the CMO is likely to be located in the top floor of the D block in the BRKR Bhavan in a combined built up area of around 10,000 sq.ft housing the CMO as well as offices of his secretaries. The offices of the ministers for Revenue, Home, Finance, Health, Education, Energy, Exercise and others are likely to be located in the adjacent block. The offices of the senior bureaucrats, including the special chief secretaries and principal secretaries although with lesser built up area will be located on the same premises.
The departments like Agriculture, Transport, Roads and Buildings and Irrigation are expected to be shifted to the offices of their respective heads of departments in the government complexes located at Errum Manzil, Khairatabad and other locations as there is adequate space available there after the AP government recently handed over its buildings to the State.
