President Award results delayed, PU student writes to PM

MANGALURU: For two years, Sathwik Sharma BS waited for the results of the Rashtrapati Puraskar (President’s Award) exams. Now, the second-year PU student needs to know how he’s fared since it could go a long way in his higher education. Sharma had petitioned the Prime Minister’s Office which forwarded it to the department of youth affairs and then Bharat Scouts and Guides but the matter has not been resolved. In a limbo since March, he has petitioned the PMO again.
Sathwik was a class 10 student at Vivekananda Kannada Medium School in Puttur when he appeared for the exams in 2017. Students from all over the country appeared for the exams. Two years on, he is a PU (PCME) student at Vivekananda PU College of Puttur and still does not know the results. Sathwik approached officials in Bengaluru and Delhi, asking why there was a delay but got no answers. He has since petitioned the PMO twice and tweeted to the President, Bharat Scouts and Guides and the sports minister.
In a letter to PM Narendra Modi, Sathwik said, “I approached the Bharat Scouts and Guides office but received no satisfactory answer. It was only when I approached the PMO that the wheels started moving... I am now in IIPU, and in Karnataka, there are seats reserved for students awarded with Rashtrapati Puraskar for higher education.”
His father, Rajesh Krishnaprasad BS, vice-president of the Puttur unit of Bharat Scouts and Guides, told TOI, “We first wrote to the PMO in December and got a response. Our grievance was directed to the department of youth affairs and from there to Bharat Scouts and Guides.”

On March 5, Bharat Scouts and Guides replied that the result is ready. “On June 7, we wrote to the PMO again. If weget no response, we’ll approach the court. In December last year also, Bharat Scouts and Guides said the results were under process,” said Krishnaprasad.
An official from Bharat Scouts and Guides said, “The results have not been declared and are in process. The delay is from Rashtrapati Bhavan. We understand there are legal issues which need clarification. We are expecting the 2017 results to be announced soon.”
