Two planes collided with each other at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport Tuesday , and both airlines are investigating the reason behind the incident.
“Tuesday morning, a KLM Boeing 737-800 that was ready to leave for Madrid hit another aircraft during the push-back (from) the gate,” Manel Vrijenhoek, a KLM Airlines spokesperson, told the media, “The passengers were never in danger and nobody got hurt.”
Kirsten De Haan of EasyJet also confirmed that “two aircraft made contact during pushback from stand, one of which was the EasyJet Flight EJU8868 from Amsterdam to Gatwick, London.”
Passengers have posted about the incident on social media, though there seems to be some confusion about which plane actually struck the other. “So my @easyJet plane hits smashed into a @KLM plane at @Schipol. Guess I’m stuck here for a while,” one user wrote.
After nearly a two-and-a-half-hour delay, the KLM flight left for Madrid. It is being investigated how this situation could have arisen,”Vrijenhoek said.
As for the EasyJet flight: “Passengers were disembarked into the terminal where they were provided with updates and refreshment vouchers,” De Haan noted.
The flight was subsequently operated by a replacement aircraft.
