Nagpur: Senior PI Ajay Malviya of Tehsil police station has found a unique way to keep the morale of his hard-working cops high. He has been rewarding cops working under him with instant rewards at the roll call sessions for their good work, especially detections.
The police department too has a system of rewarding cops by the senior ranking officials, like the deputy commissioner of police and above, as a motivating practice. The cash rewards, it is reliably learnt, remain restricted to the entries in the record books, but are not actually handed out for a substantial period. The entries serve as an indication of an individual cop’s career track record, which helps in promotion and increments. The proposals for the rewards are sent by the respective unit heads or police station in-charges.
Malviya, known to take several welfare measures, has started a parallel practice of doling out cash rewards of different amounts to the cops under him, based on the efforts and outcomes being achieved by them. “I do not mind spending some money to boost the morale of the cops in my police station, which goes a long way in encouraging him or her for more such good efforts. If the reward is announced and paid instantly in front of the rest of their colleagues, then it brings joy of another level and also motivation,” said Malviya.
He has also organized health camps for the personnel at his police station. “My system of rewarding good work seems to be paying off, as there have been a number of sound detections by them, even if it’s a case of another police station,” said Malviya.
