A 43-year-old Central government employee was found murdered at his residence in south-east Delhi’s Jaitpur in the small hours of Saturday, the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said Anand Singh was working as a senior auditor in receipt and dispatch section of Director General of Audit Central Expenditure under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The police said they received a PCR call at 5 a.m. regarding a man lying dead inside his home.
On reaching the spot, Singh was found dead with multiple stab injuries on his back.
The post-mortem was conducted at AIIMS mortuary after which the body was handed over to the family. The victim’s 16-year-old son, Pradeep, said his mother woke him up at 3 a.m. and told him that his father is lying dead.
“My father had come home late on Saturday...by then my siblings and I had slept off. After my mother told me, I woke up my uncle Mukesh, who was sleeping in our room,” the son said. Mukesh claimed that the victim had no personal enmity and hardly spoke to anyone.
‘Gate of house was open’
During preliminary probe, the police said the members present inside the house told them that they keep the main gate open during summers.
“They said Singh came home at 11 p.m., had dinner and went to sleep in his room. His wife, children and brother-in-law were in a separate room. Around 3 a.m., the wife woke up to use the bathroom when she saw blood coming out of Singh’s room after which alerted everyone,” said a senior officer.
Mr. Biswal said a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and the matter is being probed.
