Billionaire Terry Gou Tai-ming, who is a Kuomintang candidate in Taiwan's 2020 presidential election, has proposed spending NT$10bn ($321m) in a special insurance company for people with physical and mental disability who are unable to buy insurance because they cannot afford to do so or because they are rejected by insurers.
In an advertisement, his campaign says that the group insurance cover will be made available to those who hold an official identification showing that they suffer from a disability.
"This is not business, this is social justice!" the campaign ad says.
Mr Gou’s campaign office said that there are 1.17m people with disability in Taiwan.
Mr Gou is the founder of multinational electronics contract manufacturing company Foxconn.
