Furman: Bafana's attacking play was excellent

2019-07-08 09:10

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana midfielder Dean Furman said he was pleased that they finally showed an attacking threat in their shock 1-0 win over Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosts Egypt in Cairo over the weekend.

South Africa produced a much-improved performance in their last-16 clash and showed an attacking threat as Thembinkosi Lorch proved the match-winner against the Pharaohs.

Furman said that while he was pleased with their defence, he was delighted that the attackers could finally show what they could do going forward.

"We defended quite well throughout the whole tournament but what I thought was great tonight was that we showed our attacking play," Furman said.

"That's what we didn't really do in the group stages that much. We didn't hurt teams that much but tonight I thought our attacking play was excellent.

"We knew we could defend, we knew we could work hard, we knew we had a game-plan to stick to but when we go forward we've got to show how good we are and tonight some of our forward play was outstanding.

"It was one goal but we could've scored two or three more so we're very happy for the victory and we're excited for the next round."

South Africa face Nigeria in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Kick-off is at 21:00.
