The Central government on Sunday approved the request of the Tamil Nadu government for procuring 50,000 tonnes of copra.
According to a communication sent by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to the State government, 45,000 tonnes of milling copra and 5,000 tonnes of ball copra would be procured.
The minimum support price will be ₹99.2 per tonne for ball copra and ₹95.21 per tonne for milling copra.
A senior official of the State Agricultural Department said that the procurement would help stabilise the “falling prices of copra.”
It would be done through the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Marketing Board in coordination with the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India.
